General Questions from Supermamas

Can anyone use Mama Mio?
Absolutely! Mama Mio makes skincare for mothers. Our Mama Mio mission is to use all of our experience as mothers and beauty experts to give you the most effective skincare to care for you throughout your journey of motherhood. Once a mama, always a mama - so whether your baby is in your tummy or in college, we have created Mama Mio to help you feel good in your skin. We also notice a huge number of non-mamas becoming Mama Mio addicts! We have a very strong product following from women like Kirsten Dunst who are no where near being a supermama – but still want to use great products on their skin. Of course we are happy to share the joy with everybody!

What are omega 3, 6 and 9? Why are they important?
Omega 3, 6 and 9 are crucial in building and maintaining the strength and elasticity of your skin. Here at Mama Mio we researched the best plant-based sources for omegas and used them in our products. Omega 3, 6 and 9 are required for normal structure and function of the skin and through the course of your life and especially through motherhood you are depleted of your store of Omega’s making your skin more vulnerable to wrinkles and scars. They play an important role in keeping your skin juicy and hydrated, strengthening the protective barrier and building the elasticity of the skin. The topical application of omegas 3, 6 and 9 penetrate the epidermal layers down to the basal layer of your skin - where stretch marks occur, for an immediate improvement of the skins function. The omegas set to work immediately where you need them to build the strength and elasticity in your skin. Mama Mio products all provide your skin with copious amounts of topical omega 3, 6 and 9 nature’s wonder ingredients, giving you gorgeous skin. Mama Mio also recommends taking supplements that contain omega 3, 6 and 9 because our bodies cannot manufacture them, and we must consume them in our diets. Although only a small percentage (2-4%) go to your skin - supplements do provide you with lots of other great benefits. The two most common benefits of omega 3, 6 and 9 promote an ongoing role in brain function and healthy immune system. Omega 3 has been found to reduce inflammation and can provide protection against cardiovascular disease, arthritis, skin conditions, depression and other mood related disorders. Omega 6 also maintains healthy skin, hair and nails and generally helps to bring about hormonal and emotional balance. In other words, it can help the bloating and pain associated with PMS. Omega 9 also has preventative qualities as its main component, Oleic acid, helps to reduce the risk of arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease and stroke. Borage Oil (found in our Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil and Stretch Mark Butter contains both omega 6 and omega 9 in the form of Gamma-linolenic acid and Oleic acid and is in fact, one of the best sources of GLA. Obviously you need to check with your doctor if you are concerned.

Will I ever sleep again?
Probably not. There is a very small window from the ages of 6 – 12 when you may sleep occasionally. However once they hit their teens you spend your nights fretting that they are up to the same nonsense you were (and they probably are!).

What ingredients should I be avoiding in skincare?
There are a lot of questionable ingredients used in skincare and we want Mama Mio to be completely free of any of these. Which is why we have created our ‘No Nasties’ policy. We want to be sure you feel safe and sound using Mama Mio. We would like you to rest easy knowing that those Mama Mio folk have done all the research for you and keep our products clean and healthy. Our ‘No Nasties’ ban is a promise that you will never find any of these in Mama Mio: synthetic fragrance, petrochemicals, sulfate detergents, synthetic colours, sodium laureth sulfate, animal ingredients and parabens. In addition, Mama Mio products do not contain potential irritants including: PPGs, urea, D.E.A, T.E.A, PABA and other synthetic sunscreens, aliphatic alcohols/hydrocarbons, phthalates, fumarates, amines, alkanolamines, synthetic AHAs/BHAs, polyacrylamide, metacrylate, elastomer, poloxamer, styrene, vinyl, polyquaternium, synthetic chelating agents, nylon, nitriles, nitrates, nitrosamine releasers, bromates, fluor, aluminum and alumina.

Do Mama Mio products contain preservatives?
Yes, they do. In short we feel it is better to use a stable product with an extremely safe preservative system. Throughout the Mama Mio range we have chosen to use Optiphen. This is a paraben-free and formaldehyde-free preservation system for personal care products. Optiphen is a unique liquid preservative formulation which consists of phenoxyethanol and an emollient base. The combination of these ingredients provides optimized protection against microbial growth from bacteria and yeast while giving the finished product a lovely feel. It has an excellent safety and toxicological profile and is globally approved. We felt it was important to include a preservative system in our range to ensure the products would be safe and stable, especially given the high level of natural actives in the products. The INCI name is Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol.

I am a new mama and it feels like I have totally morphed into someone else – what is happening to me?
We can totally relate – for about 2 years after each of our kids, we felt like we had turned into somebody completely different from who we were pre-kids. With hindsight we realised it was really a hormonal rollercoaster we were riding and actually had almost no control over who we had become. It was pretty bad for the first year and then it just started to diminish until after 2 years we were pretty much back to our old selves. What a relief it was to discover that a lot of the changes were not permanent, just temporary and hormonal. So we always tell friends – hang in there you will return to your former glory – it just takes time!

What is a stretch mark and can you really prevent them?
Stretch marks are those pink or reddish, slightly indented, sometimes itchy streaks that appear on the breast, hips and/or abdomen during pregnancy after weight gain or weight loss, and growth spurts. They can also appear on the lower back, on the upper thighs and occasionally as far down as the back of the knees. Eventually stretch marks will become silvery or grey in colour.

They are formed when the skin is abnormally distended or stretched for a period of time, the skin’s support structure (collagen and elastin) breaks down and a stretch mark is formed from the inside out. In fact the visibly curled ends of stretch marks are actually bands of elastin broken beneath the skin.

If you are wondering whether you will get pregnancy stretch marks; there is a genetic pre-disposition towards them – unfortunately, it is impossible to predict, until it is too late and you have them. Think about it this way: wrinkles around your eyes are also genetic and we all use the best eye cream to stave off time and minimize smile lines for as long as possible. We are trying to encourage women to think about stretch marks in the same way. Of course, as with everything, there are some who are genetically gifted and who won’t get a single stretch mark even though they took twins to full term (those are also the people who no doubt complain about having to eat to keep weight on!) but for the rest of us it takes some work and dedication. If your mother had stretch marks or if you already have the fine silvery lines of teen-growth stretch marks, you are most vulnerable. The important conclusion to draw is that prevention is the best cure for stretch marks.

To help prevent them you need to maintain the moisture balance and improve the elasticity of your skin to help it cope with the nine-month stretch. If you keep rubbing in moisture – promoting elasticity – throughout your pregnancy you should be rewarded with your pre-stretched skin. But you have to rub in something which is specific to the task - this is one time when you get what you pay for so please don’t cut corners, a basic body lotion does not contain the specific ingredients needed. It should be rich in omega 3, 6 and 9 and highly moisturising and healing for the skin, such as Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil or Stretch Mark Butter. Omega 3, 6 and 9 are crucial to the strength and elasticity of your skin. Ironically when you are pregnant you are most depleted of your supply of omegas – your baby is taking them from you to make their little brain and little eyes! What this means is when your skin is about to undergo its biggest challenge – a 20-inch stretch – it is at its weakest point. Mama Mio works by ensuring your skin is getting its omegas directly where it needs them, topically. Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil and Stretch Mark Butter are tried and tested treatments created specifically to help you prevent stretch marks. The Mama Mio message is to put up a fight!

I already have stretch marks. Is there anything I can do? Is it too late?
If you have them already, it’s still not too late. You can make an improvement, and depending on the age of the stretch marks the improvement can be almost perfect. If you want to achieve perfection you will need to have cosmetic surgery. But before you get drastic try using our Goodbye Stretch Marks – we have helped loads of women make friends with their bodies.

Mama Mio Goodbye Stretch Marks is so effective because it helps heal skin on the surface but also below, at the dermis tissue level. It also contains amazing ingredients to reduce pigmentation and even out skin tone, stimulate collagen production helping to regenerate skin cells and improve the structure of connective tissue.

We recommend applying Mama Mio Goodbye Stretch Marks 3 times daily for 12 weeks to see maximum benefits. However you have to be religious about applying this product because just like any other product if you don’t apply continuously you won’t see the best results. Regardless of age Goodbye Stretch Marks helps to fade and heal both old and new stretch marks – on the surface and at a deep tissue level. It works to accelerate cell regeneration and fade any discolouration – this is effective regardless if your stretch marks are white or red. Inevitably if you are fading angry red scars the difference will be much more measurable than if you are fading white or silver scars – but there will be an improvement.

Will I ever fancy my partner again?
Every now and then you will have a fleeting moment of desire when you look at him in a certain light – but just wait until it passes. After all that is what got you into this situation in the first place.

My skin has changed, not just around my belly, but my arms and legs too – even my knees. It’s sagging and has a crepey texture. Can anything be done? Whether it is pregnancy, weight loss or aging, we all yearn for our tight toned skin of yesteryear. Crepey skin is a drag, but the most common side effect of our gorgeous babies. What we find even more disturbing is how our skin on our thighs has been sneaking down to our knees and our upper arms are sliding down towards our elbows (what is up with that?!). We created Mama Mio Tummy Toner a few years ago having discovered the joys of facial peels. We wondered why we couldn’t use the same facial technology applied to our torso for a tighter firmer looking skin.

It gently exfoliates the skin; this immediately improves the look and feel. In the longer term it helps speed up your cell regeneration so it keeps looking better. It plumps the skin to help to disguise the crepe and also makes skin appear more youthful. Lastly, so we added Soy Protein Complex which has an instant tensing effect on the skins matrix. It can be used on tummies, arms (bingo/bat wings anyone?) legs and even knees.

I have unsightly scars from my caesarean section and breast augmentation. Can I get rid of them? The statistics are in and surgical procedures are on the rise. Be it C-sections or serious surgery, scars are the tell-tale signs that many would prefer to erase. Mama Mio has launched a product to do just that - specifically help minimise the appearance of any scars.

Our See-No-Scar Solution has two radical actives that encourage your body to turbo-heal. Dimethicone is a form of silicon which has been used by doctors for several years to reduce the appearance and intensity of scars – with tremendous success. It is also incredibly rich in Vitamin E – nature’s renowned wonder-healer. The two together create a shield to protect scars and encourage their healing from within. It is best to use See-No-Scar Solution after the wound has healed completely. While See-No-Scar will work on new and existing scars, best results are possible with scars that are less than two years old since scars actively heal for about two years.

What is cellulite and can I get rid of it?
Cellulite is the lumpy substance resembling cottage cheese that is commonly found on the thighs, stomach, and butt. Cellulite is actually a fancy name for collections of fat that push against the connective tissue beneath a person’s skin, which causes the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and look lumpy. Several factors influence whether a person has cellulite and how much they have. Your genes, gender, the amount of fat on your body, your age, and the thickness of your skin are all associated with the amount of cellulite you have or how much is visible.

Exercising, eating healthy, drinking lots of water and using a cellulite cream such as Mama Mio’s Shrink To Fit Cream (it’s a bootcamp for bulges) can help minimise the appearance of cellulite. It is a total skincare regimen to help regain smooth toned skin.

Have you seen my sunglasses?
Yes you left them on the counter at the supermarket. Darn – you will just have to buy a new pair!

Can I use your products on black skin?
Yes we are an equal opportunity beautification company! We are all mamas, all around the world and from every country, religion, colour and nationality. We made sure our Mama Mio products were the best quality products for all women everywhere.

Why is your website so wordy?
Because we love to chat. Chat, chat, chat, all day long, all night long, all weekend long. Consider yourself lucky that you only have to encounter us on our website. If you bumped into us at Starbucks we would pretty much chat your ears off. Sian is the worst offender (she doesn’t even draw breath), Kathy occasionally stops chatting whilst doodling and Tanya is actually quite shy and retiring. Actually we all blame Sian – our website is so wordy because of Sian. For sure.

I have eczema can I use your products?
We have received several comments that our Wonder-Full Balm is actually very helpful with eczema. Mama Mio is a very natural range of products with fantastic natural active ingredients which should be very gentle for use on delicate skin. Our products are paraben free, petrolatum free and sodium laureth sulfate free and therefore ideal for sensitive skin. Obviously, everyone has different triggers for their eczema and as with any new product do a small patch test to decide how your skin reacts to it.

I want my perky breasts back - how can I stop my boobs from sagging? Is it too late?
It’s never too early or too late! We say use it whilst dating, pregnant and forevermore. Stretching and sagging of breast tissue results not just from pregnancy and the passing of time but from a lack of support and skin elasticity. No matter how firm your breasts are now, protect them for the future by wearing a good support bra and maintain moisture and promote elasticity by using an omega rich and heavy-duty antioxidant dEcolletage cream. We recommend using Mama Mio Boob Tube.

Are your products tested on animals?
Our products are not tested on animals, but have been thoroughly tested on real supermamas and pregnant volunteers (ourselves and our friends!), our kids, our husbands and pretty much anyone who wanders into our office. Luckily everyone seems to love it!

Which is better, Shrek or The Incredibles?
That is such an easy one – The Incredibles of course. In fact Pixar so kicks Dreamworks butt – all of their movies are a million times better. Dreamworks always has a cynical adult tone to it while Pixar maintains an innocence that is funny and a pleasure to watch. What is actually the sad thing is that you will come to have such a strong opinion on all animation – maybe because you have to watch it 20 times minimum! It used to be all Quentin Tarantino and Cohen Brothers discussions and now it is the believability that the fish could really find his dad. Go figure.

Pregnancy Specific Questions from Supemamas-Under-Construction

Why should I use Mama Mio products during pregnancy?
Mama Mio products are primarily designed for one thing: increasing skin elasticity. You’re gonna grow, you’re gonna shrink; and no-one tells you that your skin doesn’t have to suffer – but it’s a battle and you have to fight! Your secret weapon is the continual and plentiful use of omega 3, 6 and 9 - also known as Essential Fatty Acids - to nourish the lipid layer of your skin, helping maintain the suppleness and elasticity. Research has clinically proven that omegas help skin elasticity and improve the very integrity of skin cells – helping your skin stretch and recover.

Each of our Mama Mio products is rich in omegas to immediately improve the function of your skin by helping strengthen it and improving its elasticity. During pregnancy and lactation your omega levels will be constantly diminished as your baby absorbs them to use for their own crucial development. Your skin will undergo its biggest challenge – pregnancy - when it is at its weakest point. Thus the topical application of omegas will help your skin with the nine month s-t-r-e-t-c-h and ensure it fights stretch marks as you grow and maintains it’s elasticity as you shrink back down.

Why are Omegas 3, 6 & 9 so important during pregnancy? Click here

Why are omega 3, 6 and 9 so important during pregnancy?
Omega 3, 6 and 9 – Essential Fatty Acids - are required for good health by everyone, but they are especially crucial during pregnancy and lactation, at many different levels for both mother and baby.

During pregnancy, Mother Nature gives the baby priority, and it effectively treats the woman's body and brain as a food source, stripping away structural fatty acids, which are then carried across the placenta to help grow the baby's brain. There are indications that omega 3, 6, and 9 play an ongoing role in brain function, healthy immune system function, and general growth throughout childhood and adolescence - since the brain is developed in the mother’s womb and during the first two years of life, it is crucial that the mother ensures a healthy supply of omegas to her growing baby during pregnancy and whilst breast feeding. Few people know that the human brain is comprised of over 60% fat or that its most abundant fat (25%) is called docosahexaenoic acid (or much easier to say; DHA). DHA is an omega 3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid and is the primary structural fat in the brain and the retina of the eye. It is essential for brain, eye and nervous system development and function.

This entirely natural process can result in the maternal brain shrinking by 3% during pregnancy – which explains a lot! . If a woman then breastfeeds, it has been estimated that she will continue to lose 50 - 80 mg of fatty acids each day. No wonder we feel forgetful in those early motherhood years!

So getting enough DHA in your diet during pregnancy (especially during the last three months, when your baby’s brain grows at a rapid pace) and lactation (the DHA content of a baby’s brain triples during the first three months of life) is extremely important.

There are very few sources of DHA in the diet. It can be made from the omega 3 oil alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) found in large quantities in flax oil or in small amounts in green leafy vegetables. DHA is primarily found in cold-water fish, fish oils and supplements.

Other than the development of your baby omegas play an important part in the following areas of pregnancy:

Your skin - omegas can protect your skin from the ravages of pregnancy. Omega 3, 6 and 9 are required for normal structure and function of the skin. They play an important role in keeping your skin juicy and hydrated, strengthening the protective barrier and building the elasticity of the skin.† The topical application of omega 3, 6 and 9 penetrate the epidermal layers down to the basal layer of your skin - where stretch marks occur, for an immediate improvement of the skins function.† The omegas set to work immediately where you need them to build the strength and elasticity in your skin. Mama Mio products are rich in omega 3, 6 and 9 to immediately improve the function of your skin by helping strengthen it and improving its elasticity. During pregnancy and lactation your omega levels will be constantly diminished so your skin will undergo its biggest challenge – pregnancy - when it is at its weakest point. Thus the topical application of omega 3, 6 and 9 will help your skin with the nine month s-t-r-e-t-c-h and ensure it fights stretch marks as you grow and maintains it’s elasticity as you shrink back down.

Breastfeeding - it is important to continue to supplement your omegas during breastfeeding as findings indicate a deficiency of omegas causes insufficient milk production and breast engorgement. Flax seed oil has been found to substantially increase milk production in women who are not producing enough milk to nurse their infants. It also often clears up breast engorgement. Breast milk remains the primary source of omega intake for the baby. Researchers found significant variations in breast-milk DHA levels around the world. The lowest concentrations were found in vegan and American mothers, and the highest in mothers who ate fish regularly.

Post natal depression - baby blues are a painful thing to undergo. Interestingly a connection between omega deficiency and post natal depression is now being made. Scientists found low levels of omega 3 essential fatty acids, especially DHA, in mother's milk and in the red blood cells of women with postpartum depression. The difference was significant compared to those without depression. Again, this was related to low intake of fatty fish such as salmon and herring containing large amounts of DHA.

Your babies sleep pattern - if you have ever experienced the torture of sleep deprivation during pregnancy you may find this the most compelling argument to supplement your omegas yet! Researchers studied the sleep patterns of babies to assess their intellectual maturity. At the outset of the research, they studied blood samples of 17 pregnant women to assess their levels of DHA. The study found babies of mothers with higher concentrations of plasma DHA had more 'mature' sleep patterns. They also had a lower proportion of active to quiet sleep, much less sleep-wake transition time and more wakefulness than infants in the lower DHA group.

If you are finding it difficult to increase your omega intake through diet we recommend taking a supplement that combines omega 3 and omega 6: specifically extracts of flax seed (rich in AHA in the omega 3 family), highly purified fish oil (which will provide you with DHA but without any pollutants) and borage or evening primrose oil (rich in GLA a fantastic omega 6 oil).

How did I actually get pregnant?
When daddy loves mummy very much he gives her a special hug. Sometimes this hug is so special they squeak with joy. It is in this moment of joy that sometimes a baby is made. But surely you should have asked this question 9 months ago??

Are there any ingredients I should be avoiding in skincare and cosmetic products during pregnancy and nursing?
As mothers, we take your trust in Mama Mio very seriously. We understand what it is to be pregnant and the tremendous pressures that go with making tiny miracles. We go above and beyond the current safety regulations to ensure your confidence during this magical time of creation. We try and do all the thinking for you, staying ahead with the latest research to keep you safe so you can rest easy.

Here are the three worse cosmetic offenders, which as mothers; we feel you should know about:

Parabens - a common preservative used in beauty products In the past 10 years numerous studies have shown that parabens are estrogenic (they mimic the effects of estrogen in the body) - this can cause a wide variety of problems from male fertility concerns to an increased risk of breast cancer.

Petrolatum - a derivative of petroleum, instinctively it doesn't feel like a good idea to be rubbing petroleum derivatives into your skin. Research confirms this: petrolatum is listed as a probable human carcinogen in the European Union's Dangerous Substances Directive (UNECE 2004).

Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulfate - a very effective ‘foaming agent’ and is commonly used because it is so inexpensive. It is so common you will find it in most ‘foamy’ things such as shampoo, toothpaste, floor soap and car cleaners. Unsurprisingly, it is very drying, a well known skin irritant and displays a significant level of skin absorption. Once it has been absorbed it has been found to act as an estrogen which can cause a wide variety of problems in the body. Mostly we think it wrong to clean your car and clean your body with the same soap – duh!

All Mama Mio products are safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Are all of the ingredients safe?
Yes, our products are completely safe to use during pregnancy. We have kept all of our ingredients as natural as possible, this combined with our exacting safety standards have created a range that is completely safe to use during pregnancy.

Read about ingredients to be avoided in skincare during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What shall I name my baby?
If it is a boy Horatio is unusual, but a touch haughty. I have always liked the name Max… the other day we wished one of us had named one of our kids King. Wouldn’t that be so cool? King Mackay. How cool is that? Shame, I don’t think either Finn or Cally will agree to changing this late in the game. For girls I have always, always loved Tallulah (my mean old husband said no way – luckily we had two boys so we didn’t have to cross that bridge). Kathy goes for very long and unusual Welsh names. Sian says Michael for a boy or a girl. Hmmmm.

Let it dry for 3 minutes then applying your chosen Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil or Stretch Mark Butter two times a day. We have gotten feedback from mama’s that managed to reduce the visibility on their existing stretch marks and avoid any new stretch marks – all this during their second or third pregnancies. So it is a lot of work but what a result!

What about Cocoa Butter products?
Oh dear, are you ready for this? Because, we are extremely opinionated about cocoa butter! Firstly we believe that omega 3, 6 and 9 are the very best ingredients for pregnancy skincare, which is why we use them in such high levels in all Mama Mio products. However we know that other ingredients are also very helpful, Cocoa Butter is one of them. BUT ONLY if you are talking about using a pure cocoa butter you have purchased from a health food store.

If you are talking about using an everyday cocoa butter lotion – we would have to say using an extremely basic hand cream is not fit for task. Think about it – pregnancy is not dry hands; it is a 20 – 30 inch stretch and subsequent shrink that happens extremely quickly. I have seen too many dreadful stretch marks on the bodies of women who have diligently used this, to feel it makes any difference whatsoever. Also we would encourage you to read the ingredients list, parabens, petrolatum and mineral oils. Yuck.

This is one of those old wives tales that really should have evolved with time – all we can figure is that when our grandmothers were pregnant it contained a much higher percentage of pure cocoa butter and of course, there really wasn’t anything else.

Why should I use Tummy Rub instead of other stretch mark creams and oils?
Tummy Rub is such an amazing product, because the ingredients are so amazing. Not only is it petrolatum-free and paraben-free, it is jam packed with omega 3, 6, and 9. Continual and plentiful use of omega 3, 6 and 9 will nourish the lipid layer of the skin, helping maintain the suppleness and elasticity. Research has clinically proven that omegas help skin elasticity and improve the very integrity of skin cells – helping your skin stretch and recover. During pregnancy and lactation your omega levels will be constantly diminished as your baby absorbs them to use for their own crucial development. Your skin will undergo its biggest challenge when it’s at its weakest point. Therefore, by applying omegas directly onto the skin will fight stretch marks as you grown and maintain elasticity as it shrinks back down. Add to this the beautiful Gravida fragrance from ten pregnancy-specific and pregnancy-safe essential oils (emotional and physical benefits). It also absorbs super quick and isn’t greasy like other brands.

Which should I use Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Butter or Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil? Which one is better?
We created Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Butter as an option to Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil because some mama's like to use an oil and some like to use a cream. Oil exists in our skin naturally so Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil is easily recognised, highly compatible and quickly utilised. Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Butter contains the same ingredients as the Stretch Mark Oil with the addition of shea butter, which also has a fast absorption rate.

They are both equally amazing, so it is your choice.†We have lots of mamas who use the butter in the morning and the oil in the evening, which works really well if you just can't decide! Or for mega-tummies (does it feel like twins?) try layering Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil first and Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Butter second.

How often should I apply Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil or Butter?
In the first half of pregnancy you would apply either product once a day (from just above your boobs to just below your bottom front, back and sides) and in the second half or once your bump has really started to show use it twice a day. Remember Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil or Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Butter is your base coat so start with that and apply any other Mama Mio products (such as Boob Tube) on top.

What is the difference between Tummy Rub and Goodbye Stretch Marks?
Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil and Tummy Rub Stretch are used for the prevention of stretch marks and is about repair - targeting existing stretch marks. It will help fade and heal both old and new stretch marks – on the surface and at a deep tissue level. It will not prevent new stretch marks from forming.

If you are pregnant and start to notice stretch marks appearing start using Mama Mio Goodbye Stretch Marks to begin to fade your existing stretch marks (3 times daily, paint it on like finger paint covering each stretch mark. Let dry it for 3 minutes then applying your chosen Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil or Stretch Mark Butter. We know it is boring to have that many stages – but it is important to heal the existing stretch marks and help prevent any new ones. Both products are completely safe to use whilst pregnant and whilst breastfeeding Although, it sounds like a big commitment – it will really help.

Is Goodbye Stretch Marks safe to use during pregnancy?
Yes we purposefully chose intense active ingredients, which made it safe to use during pregnancy, yet still very effective. Our Goodbye Stretch Marks is allergy tested, safety tested, clinically tested and pregnancy safe!

I haven’t seen my feet in months – do you know if they are still there?
Yes this can be quite alarming – but rest assured they are still there, otherwise you would fall over. They will reappear along with your waist once baby has arrived.

Why is my belly so itchy? How can I prevent itching?
Pregnant bellies are itchy bellies, and they become progressively itchier as the months pass and the skin is stretched taut across the abdomen. The result is dryness, causing very pronounced itching in some women.

Avoid long hot showers and baths, and soaps that are drying. Our Moisturising Shower Cream is perfect for sensitive, itchy skin. Adding a drop of Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil in a not too warm bath will provide a moisturising (and relaxing) soak. You should moisturise regularly with a specific pregnancy product, an everyday moisturiser simply won’t measure up to the job. Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil and Stretch Mark Butter will alleviate itching as it increases the elasticity in your skin and prevents dryness along with those dreaded stretch marks and post-pregnancy crepey skin.

Why do pregnant women get cellulite?
Pregnant women tend to get cellulite due to the high levels of estrogen. Your body naturally stores fat in case you forget to feed your baby. This causes you to gain weight and the fat cells under the skin become bigger and create the cottage cheese look. The easiest way to describe cellulite is having poor circulation. As this is a natural process you should never try to get rid of cellulite whilst you are pregnant, though we fully recommend a full on attack once you have finished breastfeeding.

How can I protect my boobs during pregnancy and breast feeding? I don’t want them to sag after pregnancy.
Enjoy your busty look for now, it’s one of the hallmarks of pregnancy. However much you wish your fantastic profile was permanent, it isn’t – it’s on loan and the rent is high if you don’t take care of your skin. Which is why we created Mama Mio Boob Tube. This is the secret for protecting your glorious breasts so they will remain glorious (albeit smaller) after baby moves on to other food sources.

No matter how firm your breasts are now, protect them for the future by wearing a good support bra and maintain moisture and promote elasticity by using a specific omega rich and heavy-duty antioxidant dEcolletage cream. We recommend the Mama Mio Boob Tube.

Can I use Boob Tube during breastfeeding?
With all the Mama Mio products, they feel great and they smell great but they don’t taste great and that is important to your baby! So totally safe but not very tasty - please avoid the nipple area while breast feeding.

How can I alleviate leg cramps?
Unfortunately these painful spasms, which occur most often at night (as if you don’t have enough trouble sleeping with your bulging belly and racing mind!) are very common among pregnant women in the second and third trimesters. It is all about touch when it comes to getting rid of leg cramps and massage is your best defence. It stimulates blood flow to the area of the cramp and the leg in general. In stimulating blood flow, massage also helps prevent varicose veins. Mama Mio Massage Oil is full of moisturising and healing omega rich oils, scented with our relaxing Gravida fragrance

To eliminate or reduce the frequency of leg cramps be sure to get adequate fluids (at least eight glasses a day). Because fatigue and fluid accumulation in the legs are thought to be possible contributing factors, wearing support hose and alternating between your feet up with physical activity will help reduce the frequency of leg cramps.

Can I enjoy spa treatments whilst I’m pregnant?
No one deserves – and needs! – a day of pampering more than an expectant mother. There’s nothing like a massage to rub away the aches and pains of pregnancy, as well as the stress and strain. Feel free to indulge, but be sure that your therapist is trained in pre-natal massage, knows which oils to avoid and relaxes you in the correct position. Be wary of facial and body treatments such as glycolic peels, as they may be especially irritating to skin made super sensitive by pregnancy hormones. Soaking on a hot tub or using a sauna definitely should not be a part of the treatment plan. Herbal wraps are also out.
